Many times when ball screen D breaks down

It is due to people away from the ball sometimes moreso than those involved in the ball screen. Thats doubly true when what was hurting VT was the roll man. If it were an issue with the 2 in the ball screen then typically the open player would be the ball handler.

So without remembering exactly the stretch youre talking about, Id be willing to bet it was more due to someone not sitting in the proper lane 1 pass away or someone not "tagging" the roll man long enough

As far as defending Clark goes. I am always of the line of thought that, especially when it comes to a player who has repeatedly hurt you in similar situations, dont change how youre defending him if your gameplan for him was successful.

I saw someone comment that VT should stop running out to Clark on the perimeter, but thats actually the better play. UVA wasnt going to get back into that game unless the perimeter opened up for them. VT had shut down the driving lanes with positioning. So if you dont run out at Clark then you run the risk of him seeing the ball go through the net and gaining confidence. If he hits a couple then it can pull other defenders towards him and now that opens things for the people theyre guarding.

So VT was right in continuing to play Clark in that manner. Same reason why people played Alleyne and Murphy how they did even when they went through their slumps.

Alleyne came out of his slump when there was a specific gameplan to make him be the one that beat them. Then Alleyne beat them. And now VT is better for it...thank you
